The Barcelona board continues to think about Barca head coach Ronald Koeman’s dismissal. According to Diario As journalist Javi Miguel, the Dutchman is doomed as Barca president Joan Laporta is going to fire him for unsatisfactory results in any case, but at the same time, he will be denying it in the next few weeks until he finds a fitting replacement.
One of the main contenders for Koeman’s place is Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, who’s currently working as a head coach in Qatari Al-Sadd. However, Mundo Deportivo informs that the Spaniard cannot just go and sign for Barca as he lost that option after the re-signing of the contract with the Qatari club.
The previously mentioned Javi Miguel anyway insists that the clause in Xavi’s agreement with Al-Sadd is still valid, but it applies exclusively to Barcelona. For this, the Blaugranas will only need to pay a modest symbolic amount.
So far, there’s not a lot of news about other contenders for this position. Journalist Fabrizio Romano denies the Catalans’ interest in former Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo, as well as former Inter manager Antonio Conte, while Mundo Deportivo reports only about their interest in Thierry Henry. Other famous names do not appear in the media at the moment.
