How It All Went WRONG At Derby County! | Explained

Less than three years ago, Derby County were 90 minutes away from reaching the Premier League, ultimately losing a hard-fought contest with Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final after beating Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds in the semis. But while both of those clubs are now in the English top flight, Derby are not only languishing in the relegation zone of the second tier after being docked 21 points for entering administration and breaching the English Football League’s profitability and sustainability rules, but face expulsion from the Football League and the prospect of folding altogether, which would bring an end to the club’s 138-year history.

The Rams have been looking for new owners since 2019, following years of financial mismanagement under Mel Morris. But after multiple failed takeovers, their efforts have now been hampered by legal challenges from Middlesbrough and Wycombe Wanderers, who claim the club held an unfair advantage over them due to their rule breaches, something which could cost Derby up to £40million. Any new owner would have to write off debts of around £60million on top of this, so taking over at Pride Park is less than ideal for prospective buyers. Meanwhile, supporters were recently issued a warning following allegations of “abuse and personal attacks” directed at the club’s administrators.

But how did Derby get into such big trouble? Who is to blame? And what will happen next? With the future of one of England’s most historic clubs in the balance, let’s take a look.

  1. Players wages a big problem needs to be amended across the board in all leagues premier and championship wages n a fixed salary with bonus incentives for cups ,position , goals scored etc and non of this managers cut and blah blah blah has ruined the game and made it divisive needs bringing into line so clubs can compete again.

  2. In all fairness what comes around for other clubs goes back around for others aka what happened to the likes of Bury fc and leeds has happened to Derby however Leeds managed to escape death Bury weren't that lucky Derby I can't see escaping this

  3. FFP is a joke. If rich owners funnel money to their premiership teams through sponsorship via one of their other companies or subsidiaries which is apparently ok, it just seems you can get away with it if you’re in the premier league (probably because the prem is worth too much to English football).

  4. Spygate: Derby Protest but Leeds Not Punished= Leeds Win
    Playoff:Derby Win against Leeds= Derby Win,Revenge complete
A Year Later:Leeds Promoted and defeat Derby to ensure winning the Championship=Leeds Win,Revenge fullfiled

Now:Leeds Still in PL(At the time this posted) while Derby in Championship, having a lot Deduction and facing relegation to League One

So the score was 4-1 for Leeds United Victory

What a Story between this Rivarly?

  5. They pushed too hard to get promoted under Lampard. When he failed so cruelly in the play offs they lost out on the money that would have paid off the gamble

  6. I'm a Manchester City fan but even I must admit it's disgusting how smaller/poorer clubs are treated and often punished for their bad owners. The owners are the problem, stop punishing the players, fans, managers and staff! I hope Derby make a comeback and can get to the premier league one day, they deserve it after how they've been treated.

  7. Biggest problem owners betting the farm for Premier League riches, failing jumping ship scot-free whilst the club, city and fans having to pick up the piece and receive ALL the punishments.

  8. Speaking as a Boro fan I'd prefer Gibson to withdraw his claim against Derby, their fans have been punished enough. I'd prefer Gibson to go after Mel Morris, who as far as I'm concerned is a crook and a cheat.

  9. Meanwhile Bielsa is watching all this mess at Derby unfurl through his binoculars with a big smirk on his face ?️‍♂️?️‍♂️?️‍♂️

  10. I disagree with the abandoned by football family part, im a derby fan born and bred, the support I've seen from other clubs has been inspiring, our arch rivals forrest have even given is support.
The efl and Morris can do one .
But I don't feel we've been abandoned by football family, it's just what do you really expect them to do? Pay it for us lol no

  11. I hear if you buy this club you don't even get the stadium . How is going to pay without the stadium as part of the deal ? This also sounds like a reason not to have promotion/ regulation. All these lower clubs are dying trying to get in the premier league .

  12. In retrospect Derby condemning Leeds for 'Spygate' was acutely hypocritical. Its easy to feel a touch of schadenfreude until you realise its the fans who ultimately will suffer most.

  13. Imagine a Labour Rep saying the Government In football is Broken ? lol oh Wait Don't throw stones in Glass houses Lady your Party is Broken along with the entire instiitutional system you currently (temporarily) Enjoy the privilages of ! Vile Party… worst of them all, im from a Labour family for 3 generations No longer support any of them
