One of the most talked about managers in world football today, Erik Ten Hag’s work with Ajax has seen him linked with almost every elite club in Europe. And this season finally feels like it could be his last. Following the untimely and rather embarrassing departure of director of football Marc Overmars, one of the key components of the operation which has helped him achieve such great success at the Johan Cruyff Arena, now could be a good time for him to seek a new challenge.

And with rumours that Mauricio Pochettino could leave PSG in the summer, Man United on the search for Ralf Rangnick’s successor, Borussia Dortmund yet to consistently impress under Marco Rose, and even a club like Real Madrid rumoured to be assessing potential alternatives to Carlo Ancelotti, he may have no shortage of options come the end of the season. With recent polls showing United fans overwhelmingly preferring Ten Hag over the Premier League-proven Pochettino, it’s clear his stock is at an all-time high.

But what makes Erik Ten Hag such an enticing managerial prospect? And how did he become the manager he is today? On today’s EFD Explained, we’re going to find out..

  1. United .Erik Ten Hag .please. you would have greater an wiser players to Apply your tactics an style .your style is similar to Ragnick .the team would have alot more dynamic in there style of play an you definitely would evoled these players

  2. What people don’t realize is that if ten hag goes to manchester united and their fanbase expect him to be SAF replacement, that’s where things goes downhill pretty fast.

Unrealistic expectations from United fans and the English media is going to ruin ten hag’s legacy.

I suggest ten hag should NOT join Manchester United.

Basically, this is why you can’t have such nice things

  3. BVB would be fools fire Marco Rose. He has them as a top 5 offense in world. Just behind Liverpool and Bayern and in par with the Man City! Their defense is a mess one of the worst in the league and yet their offense is so good they still sit in 2nd! And their defense is mainly personal related. Akanji and Zagadou are poor. Hummels is old and having the worst stint of his career. Same goes for their only true CDM in Witsel who’s been hurt and bad. They have had several injuries to back line too just as Morey. They don’t have any backup Wing backs only traditional fullbacks who don’t fit the system.

Give Rose the summer improve the defense please! Starting with Sule and later hopefully Schlotterbeck and maybe RWB and CDM! If he’s not in the top 4 by January then fire him. But if he’s sitting at 2nd again then how can you fire him? Bayern will always be Bayern.

  4. Erik ten haag's only major weakness is that, he isn't good with substitutions, whether they be for injury prevention or for immediate impact. That isn't such a huge problem when it's Ajax that's dominating a league, but if he joins somewhere like man United who's fighting for top 4 right now, it might have a greater impact on results of the games in the last 20 mins in a league as taxing on players such as the premier league

  5. I think Ten Hag will leave after this season but not necessarily because of Overmars. I actually expected him to leave after last season because he's had massive success with Ajax for 2.5 seasons at that point and he really deserves a step up in my opinion. For whatever reason, he wanted to continue his success with Ajax for another season but everyone knew he'd be out of the Netherlands sooner rather than later. I'm convinced he would have left after this season even if Overmars had still been there.

  6. For me ten hag is the best manager after pep, klopp and tuchel. His tactic is very bold and also have variation, he promote youngster, polish flop player into good player and with limited manager he sign very good player.

  7. I'd really love to see him feel comfortable enough with the replacement of Overmars to stay at Ajax one more year to have another chance to make a deep UCL run, and hopefully pull off the feat of getting Ajax back to the final. As far as where I think would be the best fit for him once he leaves… I think he would be the best choice of an heir apparent to continue the culture City have built with Pep over the past handful of years. His philosophy would fit well with the talented roster City already have, he'd have an excellent academy to develop young talent in, and he'd have an exceptional operational and organizational culture backing him.
