Scores killed in Indonesia football stadium crush – BBC News

At least 125 people have died in a crush at an Indonesian football match that has become one of the world’s worst stadium disasters

About 180 were also hurt in aftermath of home team Arema FC’s loss to bitter rivals at the overcrowded stadium late on Saturday in Malang, East Java.

The crush took place after police tear-gassed fans who invaded the pitch.

Fifa President Gianni Infantino said it was «a dark day for all involved in football and a tragedy beyond comprehension».

  1. "It was the feeling of disappointment that prompted the supporters to go down to the field to ask the players why they lost the game"

Supporters: 'Hey! Why'd you guys lose the game?!? You're supposed to win, remember? We wanted you to win! You totally messed up the game plan! Well… next time, just remember… WIN the game. Understand? WIN. Okay… glad we were able to clear that up. Hey… where'd all these tear gas canisters come from?!?"

  2. The most tragic part is that it was mostly the polices fault and that they are trying to put the blame on the fans that attended the game. Only a handful of people initially jumped onto the field and then by the time the poilce had delt with the majority of the handful of people they decided to fire tear gas close to the crowds. As the tear gas drifted and was blown by the wind into the crowd that was until that moment peaceful. Then the outraged crowd jumped onto the field and attacked the poilce officers that were now attacking the rest of the crowd through their actions and poilce brutality. The people can only stand so much of their blatant disregard for civilian life's before taking action

  3. Strange. Rugby, Hockey, American Football are the most violent sports with almost no fan deaths. Soccer, which is not that violent has a lot of fan deaths. Something about that sport drives people insane.

  4. Youre team lose, just deal with it!! i dont understand why these people are behaving like this, as an indonesian, this tragedy just added another reasons why i should leave this country 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  5. From what i heard from local news, at start 1-2 guys come down to the pitch and giving some emotional support, but more and more coming, and some started to wreak havoc, but the police shooting tear gas is very f*cked up
