City who went into the game three points adrift of the reigning champions needed to win the game while a draw for United would probably have been enough to secure a 20th league title for the Old Trafford side.
In a game of few chances, City looked the more positive team form the outset, while United had set up a defensive team and chosen to play Wayne Rooney as a lone striker and he looked isolated as a result, in a game where the Reds hardly threatened to score.
