विश्वकप के इस फाइनल मैच को इतिहास का सबसे रोमांचक फाइनल मैच कहा जा रहा है। अर्जेंटीना ने पहले हाफ में एक तरफा खेल दिखाया। मैच में पूरी तरह से डॉमिनेट करते हुए, 2-0 से आगे रही। पहला गोल लियोनल मेसी ने पेनल्टी किक से गोल किया, उसके बाद दूसरा गोल एंजल डी मारिया ने किया था। पहले हाफ में कमजोर खेल दिखाने वाली फ्रांस ने सेकेंड हाफ में अर्जेंटीना को चौंका दिया। एम-बाप्पे ने 6-7 मिनट के अंदर 2 गोल करके,फ्रांस को बराबरी पर लाकर खड़ा कर दिया। फाइनल में दोनों टीमें अब 2-2 गोल की बराबरी पर आकर खड़ी हो गई थीं।
